That sounds like the events of a triathlon!! The Diamond Kid Triathlon was held on June 6 and Eli and Easton took on the challenge to participate in the race. Easton was excited from the moment I told him about it and was anxious to start training right away. Eli on the other hand had to be persuaded by planning to do the race with a friend (who we found out at the last minute would not be participating due to scheduling conflicts). When Eli found out that his friend wouldn't be there, he said it was the worst day of his life (he makes comments like that now and again to spice up his nearing 10 years of life). Little did he know he would be talking the whole way home about how much fun he had.

Because Easton wasn't as confident with swimming 50 meters solo and we weren't ready to send him on a 2 mile bike ride around the Blue Diamond course, not having him in full view at all times, Brandon willingly accompanied Easton throughout the race. "The cooler weather (60 degrees at race time 8 a.m.) actually made the pool feel warm, it was waiting to get in that made me wonder if Easton was going to be up to the swim," stated Dad.

Eli felt pretty good after finishing the race. The first time tri-athlete stated, "I can't wait to do it again next year! That was awesome!" Mom looked very surprised by the enthusiasm. "Just watching the boys, and having trained with them, doing only one activity at a time, I knew they were feeling exhausted after doing the three events consecutively," she said. After the swim we were cheering Eli into the transition area where he seemed a little delirious, or maybe he was water-logged. Once he finally got his socks and shoes on, I had to remind him to take his goggles off his head, take off his swim shirt, put his t-shirt on, and grab his helmet. Then he was off to the bike ride. We missed him passing us on his first lap because we were watching Easton swim at that time. Mom got a little worried after not seeing him for a while, thinking dramatically, "what if he crashed along the course somewhere." But then, there he was finishing up his final lap and getting ready to run the 1/2 mile through the park. Hooray! He was on the homestretch and would have a final finish time of 00:22:03.7.

Easton, you did it!! You finished the whole triathlon, how do you feel? "Whoa, that was long! That was fun!" the first time Parent-Assist tri-athlete remarked, very slightly short of breath. With a final time of 00:37:01.3, "pretty amazing for a 6 year-old's first triathlon," gleamed Mom. Great job boys, and Dad too!
